People say that most blogs do not make it to 6 months. We looky here, I DID IT!! Today April 1, 2010 marks my 6th month anniversary of blogging here at DeliverAwayDebt. I would like to thank YOU for all the support you’ve given me. I wasn’t sure how blogging would change my life, but I can say that I’m a better man for doing it. I’ve learned to manage my time better; working two jobs, having 2 kids, and being a husband, and blogging all put constraints on my time. I managed to keep up with all the important things in my life by cutting out the wasteful items; TV, mindless web surfing, and sleeping. I’ve learned that being completely open and honest in regards to my finances has NOT brought out any poor remarks from readers. I wasn’t sure how I would be received by writing about all the debt I have, I figured most people would poke fun at me or belittle me. That has not happened yet and to my surprise, the support I’ve received has been unbelievable to me. Thank-you, thank-you, and thank-you everyone……

The Google Analytic Stats
Ok now onto some more interesting business. Being that I like to share everything with you, I’ve decided to share all the blogging stats with you. I have no idea if I’m doing well or doing poorly, I do know that each month gets better and better. Deep down inside I feel that I’m doing well and that’s what matters to me.
I’ve used Google Analytics to gather this data.
I’ve been updating many posts with better SEO and it’s starting to pay off. I began the process at the end of February and I’m seeing an increase from the search engines every day. It’s gone from 10.69% to 17.44% in one month. I guess spending a little time reworking the post has paid off. With limited time I can only focus on a few things at a time so SEO has been on my mind lately. I’ve got a long list of items to complete before the blog turns one
WordPress Stats
Here are the content stats from six months of DeliverAwayDebt.
- 64 Posts have been published (including this one)
- 863 comments have been written
- The average number of comments/post is 13.4
- Disclaimer: since I reply to most comments we can say there are 6.7 comments from others on each post
- It takes me an average of 3 to 4 hours to write a post (I know, I’m slow)
- I write posts as I go. I don’t have time to batch write because I’m usually playing with my kids, or working
- I currently have 190 RSS subscribers and 35 email subscribers
- I have 568 twitter followers and 512 friends
- YAKIEZE CHALLENGE results: Alexa ranking started at 829,940 and currently at 117,122
Money Made
I’ve made $205 on this site. All the money has been used to fund the expenses related to running this site. While I was searching Google I came across a website that estimates how much a blog is worth. After following the link and updating the information (just clicked the “update” button), the site gave me the estimated value of DAD. Are you sitting down? $21,432.80 is the price. Anyone interested in buying it?? I’m not sure how they price a site but it sure sounds cool. I wonder if I should include that in my net worth
Here’s the link; if you have a blog you can see what it’s worth too.
Just for clarificaiton, I DO NOT THINK THIS SITE IS WORTH THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY. I just thought is was a funny money related topic to share with you.
My Favorite Post
It turns out that my favorite post was not written for this site, I wrote it for Wojo at Fiscal Fizzle. Get a Second Job and Quit Whining About Debt appear on Fiscal Fizzle on Feburary 23, 2009. Fiscal Fizzle made the WiseBread weekly roundup with the post as well, Best of Personal Finance Roundup: Get a Second Job and Quit Whining About Debt?.
What’s Next
I will continue to post on 3-4 times per week. I’m going to be added some fun features to the site soon. I have been working on series of posts to go live on 7 sites at once. Once I have all the content completed I will be contacting the blogs. I will continue to promote others every chance I get. I will start to post to the article sites to gain more visits. Up until now I haven’t submitted more than 10 total posts to sites like Tip’d, Digg, StumbleUpon, and others. And of course I will continue to update the pizza totals and stiffy tracker.
Thanks again everyone for making DeliverAwayDebt a success (at least in my mind it is). Don’t forget to enter the contest to win one of 3 copies of Unautomate Your Finances, by Adam Baker.

Only six months? What a great job you’ve done with your blog in that time! Especially in light of all of your other obligations. Amazing.
I’ve been a subscriber for a while now… So can I go ahead and just win?
.-= Jolyn@Budgets are the New Black´s last blog ..What Would You Snag If You WON a FREE One-Minute Spree in the Freezer Section of Your Grocery Store? =-.
Jolyn and Donna, got you both down. Thanks for your support!!!
Man, that’s awesome, and congrats on your huge site worth
Another way to check your site which is pretty cool is http://websitegrader.com which can compare your site with others you input.
Another tip for ya, spend a little time improving your writing methods, I used to take about as long as you to put out a post too, but after spending a week or so reading how to write more effectively and practicing what I learned, I can write a post in about 20 minutes (average 800 words or so) and then another 10 or 15 editing, adding links, etc.
I love your writing style, regardless of my comment frequency, so don’t take this the wrong way, keep your personality in it and all, but the time spent improving speed and efficiency will really help out.
Some places I got help in that regard are http://www.problogger.net/ and more preferred, http://www.copyblogger.com/

Thanks for the great advice Jesse. I will take it and run with it. Maybe I should have paid more attention in my writting classes in school. I was too focused on all the techie crap, but look at me now
Thanks again sir.
Love this site! I am an e-mail and RSS subscriber. Hope I win a book. I am a book-a-holic.
Congrats on the 6 month anniversary. That’s right around the time that my site started taking off for me.. Hopefully it will for you too!

Jeff (great name, btw),
Congrats on your 6 month mark, I definitely wish I could be more consistent with my posts. I started subscribing about a month ago via RSS, and I think you’re doing a fine job. Good luck getting out of debt!
You’re a champ! Thanks for helping me find a voice and a place.

.-= Craig/FFB´s last blog ..Certificate of Deposit (CD) – What is it? =-.
@Derek @Craig Thanks for the support. Only 6 more month until I’m a year old. That sounds even cooler than 6 months. I’m going to plan a really cool giveaway for that one. Maybe a netbook or two like Elle from CoupleMoney just did
Great job on your blog. I enjoy reading it via RSS. I just pared down my Google reader because I couldn’t keep up with all the posts and yours made my cut! LOL! Great giveaway, I would love to win.
Awesome Amy, I’m so glad you enjoy the blog and THANK-YOU for keeping DAD in your G-reader. I have a ton of people in mine, but it’s great for long delivery nights when nobody is ordering. I get a lot of blog reading done on those nights.
Congrats on the 6 months. I am at two months and hopefully will stick with it through the summer. The estimate on your blog’s worth is probably not far off. Keep it going and you may be able to sell it or start generating a pretty good flow of extra money. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to following your journey and someday reading the post about how all your debt has been paid off!
.-= BibleDebt´s last blog ..Lower Your Bills: Free Wireless Phone Service =-.
Hey BibleDebt, have you read my “got hope” post?? If not you need to read it. I don’t want to see the word hope or hopefully used around here again
You will blog through the summer, you will make time to build your community. Now doesn’t that work better than “hoping” your way through the blogging world? I just updated my Yazezie Group list and you’re on it now. Good luck in the challenge and you’ll be reading the debt free post soon enough, thanks for the support
Congratulations J.
I too, should reach 6 months next week. I have enjoyed it as well, even though it is a lot of work.
I agree about the blog post time-I have used Copyblogger’s suggestions, and even joined their Third Tribe group to get more help, and am now down to less than an hour for most posts.
I have no techno skills, but am lucky enough to afford to pay for the IT help.
I hope to be moving to Thesis/Scribe combo soon.
Keep it up.
That’s great Dr. Dean, I’m glad you enjoy blogging so much too. Copyblogger is a great resource, I just need to invest more time in speeding up my writing. The time invested will be made up 2 or 3 fold quickly.
You’ll love Thesis, version 1.7 just came out and I plan on updating this weekend.
Congratulations! I am an email subscriber, and enjoy it greatly.
@Cathie and @John Thank you, you are both entered. Good luck
Hey there,
I just learned of your site, I’ll be busy checking it out, amazed that you’ve been up just 6 months.
Congrats! I thought you’ve been around a lot longer than that.
I wish you and your blog GREAT success!
.-= Mrs. Money´s last blog ..Who Handles Your Finances? =-.
Mrs. Money, was it the gray hair that made you think I’ve been around longer? Since you just blow by me this week, I figured I had to make a push to catch back up
Oops forgot to mention that I’m a new subscriber
Congrats on making it this far. Amazing progress in every respect! I’m so honored that I can play host to your favorite post.
.-= Wojciech Kulicki´s last blog ..Stop Wasting Time & Start Clipping Coupons! =-.

Thanks again Sir!!

Hi Jeff,
I have been a subscriber for a while now. As a pizza delivery person myself, and with a goal to get out of debt, I really enjoy reading your blogs! I would love to win the book “Unautomate Your Finances”. Thanks again for your encouragement!
@Ashley Your in, thanks for subscribing
@Julie Ahh A follower driver. Maybe I can sneak in two entries for a pizza delivery person. Any good stories you’d like me to include in the Stiffy Alert section?? I’m always interested in hearing funny delivery stories.
Happy Blogiversary!!
Wow $20K for a blog- I inputted my information and it’s supposedly worth $10K too! lol, ANY TAKERS out there??! =)
Wow that’s great $200 buckeroos so far- congrats! Is that mainly with adsense?
.-= youngandthrifty´s last blog ..Why You Shouldn’t Pay for your Lottery Ticket with your Credit Card =-.
YoungandThrifty- 10K sounds great. Too bad these can’t be real
If it was I would sell today and start a site a month every month and sell each one at 6 months. I could quit both jobs then.
Great work Jeff! 6 months, and you’ve come very far! I remember when I first linked to you a while a go and highlighted your Twitter account. Remember that?
Anyway, your stats are great, and it progressing well everyday.
Good think you’re part of the Yakezie, b/c part 2 is where we’re going to make some bucks!
I’ve got a copy of Adam’s e-book, so no need to choose me.

Thank you Sam, of course I remember the shout out. It seem like that was forever ago. Do you remember when you were completely obsessed with your blog? Just look at how we’ve both grown
I’m making a “Delivery Area” page this weekend that includes all the sites I’ve been interviewed on and mentions on. Your mention will be on there too.
Yes sir, I’m a proud Yakezie member and I’m looking forward to the next phase. Of course I still need to be below 100K before July 4th and get accepted by Wisebread into the blogger list. The challenge has been great so far. I can only imagine what an energetic crew like this can do in the future.
Thank-you Jeff
Obsessed with my blog? Never! hahah. I just remember telling you how bummed I was getting rejected by something and that we were gonna start our own damn group!
WB hasn’t accepted you on their top PF blog list? Let me e-mail them for you too.

Ahh, your blogs half birthday is my blogs year birthday. looks like we both had similar content today. Your blog is blowing up man and it’s only on the up and up from here! Keep killin’ it homie!
Hey Ninja, thank-you. And congrads on Punch reaching a year. I’m heading over after I write this. I loved the letter to yourself idea, it was fun and eye opening to sit down and figure out what the hell I want to do in 10 years. My wife doesn’t read my blog much, but I share most of the ideas and thoughts with her. She loved the letter I wrote. Since I had her at the computer reading, I had her click your link to checkout the art work featured on your site. She loved it all, and thinks you are a VERY FUNNY guy. I’m just glad you are getting married so I don’t have to worry about a Ninja stealing my wife, haha. Take care Brother!!
Jeff – Keep rockin it dude! You deserve all the success you have received! You are in inspiration not only on the bloggin front but also due to your dedication to delivering away your debt. No doubt you’re going to make it and more!

Agreed! Jeff really great work man! That is some hecktic life you live, I thought mine was busy! Also thank you for sharing your numbers with us. I really appreciate that as your example can give a smaller blogger a better idea what to expect as they continue to grow.
Congrats on your success and I wish you the best! Keep up the great work!
.-= MFO´s last blog ..Progress Report #2 =-.
@MFO thanks for the comment. I figured some people would love to see some numbers. I’ll use them as a baseline for future growth, but you can gain some insight too. Like I said I had no idea if they are good or bad, it’s just a snapshot in time. I wish you the best success too, and of course I’ll be visiting to help you out my Yakezie Brother
Hey Jeff,
Congrats on your 6 months mark!! You are doing incredibly well in such a short time, you should be very proud of what you have done
@Karen, Thanks for the really kind words. Thank-you for being one of my first e-mail subscribers, seems like so long ago
Thanks so much for posting these stats. It gives a new blogger inspiration!
