Fighting Debt Ninja Turtle Style – Guest Post

March 10, 2010 · 7 comments

Seeing as though Jeff is a pizza delivery driver, he’s inspired me to relate debt to a particular set of super heros that absolutely love pizza. You guessed it… the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Although I’m not sure he’s run into them yet, unlike this guy, he figuratively battles with their same tenacity each shift when eliminating debt, or should I say Shredder.

Each of the four ninja turtles has a unique strength, and ironically, a different way of defeating Shredder, keep reading to find out which Ninja turtle you’re most like when battling debt and take a guess at which one Jeff is most like.

Leonardo — The courageous leader and devoted student of martial arts, Leonardo wears a blue mask and wields two katanas. Being the eldest of the turtles Leonardo has the virtue of patience so he invests for the long term and focuses on building a plan and budget that kills the highest interest debt first and continues to do so until the lowest cost debt. He’s content working steadily towards his goals and knows that the future will eventually come. Leonardo is the tortoise (no pun intended) who slowly and steadily reaches his financial goals.

Donatello — The brilliant scientist, inventor, engineer, and technological genius, Donatello wears a purple mask and wields the b? staff. Don uses his brain and intellect to craft his financial situation so as a creator he takes the entrepreneurial path to create different sources of income. Multiple streams of income, a constant urge to create, and engineering creative ways to structure his debt are how Donatello eventually becomes a success. Of all the turtles, he’s the one that takes the road less traveled. He’s also the one that’s most likely to take on “good debt” and may take a while to pay off his debt due to his constant need for capital.

Raphael — The team’s bad boy, Raphael wears a red mask and wields a pair of sai. He has an aggressive nature and seldom hesitates to throw the first punch. With his take charge mentality Raphael doesn’t wait to take action against his debt. He doesn’t craft a detailed plan or wait for long term success, but goes out everyday and works his butt off to defeat his debt. Persistent and hard working Raphael will break down any barrier in his way to eliminate his debt. Although not as smart a strategy, it’s highly effective and guarantees results.

Michelangelo — Easy-going free-spirited, Michelangelo wears an orange mask and wields nunchaku. “Mikey” provides much of the comic relief. He’s adventurous and creative which means that he’ll design a lifestyle that works for him and his debt. He may not be motivated to pay it off right away while he focuses on living it up right away, but he’ll get there eventually. Not taking debt too seriously, finding ways to creatively structure his debt is one of his strengths, along with telling a good joke. Michelangelo may be the laziest of the turtles, but he’s decided that there are more important things (like pizza) than tackling debt or becoming a successful entrepreneur.

Each ninja turtle, much like each individual, has a different style in defeating the enemy, which in this instance is debt. Which ninja turtle are you most like when tackling your debt?

Which turtle do you think Jeff is most like?

I love the turtles!!!!

I feel like leonardo. Patience- lots of patience. Diligently plodding ahead. Changing plans when things go crazy, but never freak out. We will be out of debt soon enough and it will rock.

Thanks for the fun post!
