Sunday Morning Clicks – Remember When Edition

by Ryan Yates

This week has been very busy, and emotional for me. My first job was completely crazy and I put in almost 80 hours in 5 days. Friday was the worst because I was up at 1am for the 1st job and finished the 2nd job at 1am. I’m sure people noticed the #24Hours tag I was using while tweeting all day. I was able to tweet at least once every hour for a 24 hour period.

On the emotional side of things, a very close friend of mine from work passed away on Monday. His name was Paul Sublette and I wanted to include him in this post as my way to remember him (hence this edition). Paul and I performed the same job at GM and for about a year we were part of the best salary team of people that I’ve ever been of part of. Him and I were the ones who always brought humor to the table. With out him work life was just boring. Paul was also my smoking buddy for many years. I have been smoke free for quite a while, but Paul kept smoking. He died at the age of 43 from natural causes, a bad heart. The smoking had a major role in that. I miss my friend, but I will remember him forever.

Now onto the good parts of this Remember When Edition. As you know I’m part of the Yakezie Challenge which is a group of bloggers working together to improve our Alexa rankings. I’m currently ranked at 140,038. I began the challenge at 829,000 so I’ve made some great improvements. I would just like to say thank-you to all my readers. You are the one who visit the site and help my rankings. Without you and your interaction, I would still be at 829,000. So I thank each and every one of you 🙂

Elle is the brains behind a great website called CoupleMoney. Elle was featured on Problogger this week in a guest post that she wrote about Tips for Doing the 31 Days to Build a Better Blog Challenge. In you don’t know, having a post on Problogger is one the biggest honors in the blogging community. I’m proud of Elle, and very proud to be part of the Yakezie challenge with her. I just hope that she remembers the little guys (me) when she is big time 🙂 CoupleMoney is also running a sweet giveaway right now, she is giving away a Netbook. Read this post for the information on entering.

Today the House will vote on the Obama healthcare plan. The bill is 2,000 plus pages long with ton a wasteful spending included. I’m all for having a great healthcare program but I continue to wonder how they are going to pay for it. I’m not going to get in it here, I would just like to highlight a great cartoon that JoeTaxpayer posted yesterday. I want to remember the healthcare vote so here is Joe’s post, Obamacare Going to Pass?

Have a great day everyone. I will, no pizza job tonight so I have the whole day with the family 🙂

I’m sorry to hear about your loss of a dear friend. I’m glad you have so many fond memories of him. My prayers and thoughts are with his family and friends.

Thanks so much for mentioning me 🙂 I think the Yakezie Group has some great bloggers and if we are helping out one another, we can accomplish so much. Congrats on climbing so high already with Alexa; you deserve it with all the work you’ve put into the site and the community.

Oh Jeff- I am so sorry to hear that. 🙁 I’ll keep you in my thoughts!

Bucksome Boomer March 21, 2010 at

Sorry to hear about your friend. It’s good you had this platform to honor him.

I’m sorry I missed out on the Yakezie challenge; it includes many of my favorite bloggers.

Lastly, I’m on the other side of the fence than you when it comes to health care reform. I agree that it’s not perfect but we have to do something and now.

Hey Jeff, sorry to hear about your friend. I had my best friend pass away years back and it still sucks to this day but remembering is the way I deal with it…. As much as it sucks he still makes me laugh everyday and he has been gone 7 years… I also try hard to mention him every day and would say I have been mostly successful… His memory will never die in our circle of friends.

Elle did an excellent post and an awesome giveaway…. looking forward to see who wins :).

Your doing insane on your Alexa…. I am just about to drop sub 200k after just two weeks of Yakezie (I started around 280k)….. Now just need accepting by Wisebread (just subbed yesterday).

Gald you have little family time, it’s well deserved especially after your crazy week.

On the healthcare, I don’t know the bill fully he is trying to pass but I really do think USA NEEDS a public healthcare system…. I have witnessed your system fail on too many levels with friends and family. In UK we get sick, so we just go to the hospital, get patched up and it’s done… no insurance stress etc etc. The people who say people are dying on the floors and things are exaggerating (in my experience)…. A few family members with cancer and other bad illnesses have all had excellent UK treatment….. Even if this bill is majorly flawed I hope it eventually leads to universal public healthcare… I know many many bloggers don’t agree with this!!

Thanks for the nice words Forest. I’m glad the memory of your friend make you smile everyday. I think that is a great way to keep him with you.

You are doing well in the challenge too, and have impressed everyone in the group with your talents 🙂

Yeah Healthcare. Since I’m a PF blogger I’m not going any farther than I have already on the topic. I will just add to something I said in the post. I can’t see how as a country in debt that we can add specials items into the bill just to get votes (as least that’s what it looks like to me). If this is the right program for the country to have then why not just implement it without it having to be this long (yes, I know that’s how politics works). I am just looking for the “Change” that was promised and I don’t see it on either side. I think the insurance companies are just going to start jacking up rates before the bill is signed into law, just like the credit card companies did this past year. Before the credit card act was signed into law. Anyhow enough about that 🙂

Have a great day Forest

I am kind of likely to agree with you here even though I don’t know the bill I bet its a please the big boys offering and probably won’t push things in a good direction….. USA seems to be run on corporations and they get their way in the end :(… sucks as it’s always the normal folks who suffer in the long run. Insurance wouldn’t be so bad if the welfare of the people was priority over profit…

Valentina March 21, 2010 at

Hey Jeff,

Sorry to hear about your friend … that you had great times together is a gift and the memory is there for you cherish.

Don’t know about the health care thing … we have a relatively good system here in Canada but with escalating costs associated with medical technology and an aging boomer population, and ever increasing demands it is getting harder and harder for the government to fund it to everyone’s satisfaction.

Jeffrey Kosola March 22, 2010 at

Thank you Valentina.

The boomer population is going to cost both governments a ton of money. The boomers and their parents are the ones who have created the middle class and have earned a nice lifestlye. With some many people expecting to have excellent care for little investment on their part I just don’t see how that can happen. Not without causing large debts for my generation to payoff (Gen X). Just my thoughts.
